WE WELCOME THOSE WHO COME TO US:
workshop in Ahwash ⴰⵃⵡⴰⵛ  &  rhythm in motion in Amazzer oasis

30.01-4.02.2026
Amazzer village (near Tazenakht), Morocco

Doom Mood Collective invites you for the third edition of workshop dedicated to Aḥwash song-dances, drumming and rhythm in motion led by Hicham Ounamir and Borys Słowikowski. It will take place in the village of Amazzer, an oasis in Southern Morocco. We will stay in a traditional house, share homemade meals, take hikes in the surrounding mountains where we will also hold some of our lessons, and jam around evening bonfires.

Aḥwash (Ahwach / ⴰⵃⵡⴰⵛ / أحواش) is a diverse Amazigh tradition of chanted poetry in a form of collective song-dances, accompanied by drums. It is a practice that welcomes participants of all musical and cultural backgrounds, offering a deep introduction to rhythm and collective music-making.

We will study songs from various local Aḥwash traditions, and explore the percussion instruments that typically accompany Aḥwash: genga (bass drum), bendir (frame drum), and naqus (metal bell). Rhythmic exercises will allow us to deepen embodiment and understanding of rhythm and pulse, and practice coordination. These practices will also serve as a foundation for collective rhythmic improvisation and experimentation using our bodies, voices, and percussion instruments.
